5/15/2019 0 Comments Java Downloads For Mac Os X 10.6.8Bottom Line Mac users waited five years between updates to the OS X version of Word, but Microsoft used the time to freshen its word processor's look and expand its collaborations tools, including real-time editing with colleagues. Jan 31, 2013 The Mac maker dropped the Java runtime from the default installation for OS X 10.7 Lion when the operating system update launched in 2010. Java vulnerabilities have been a common exploit used by malicious hackers looking to exploit the OS X platform. David, think you could save your preachy tone and try offering some actual help? This was a surprise actually, since the workaround of from Apple (in 10.7/10.8 machine) doesn't work anymore, and for those on 10.6.8 the Java Pref pane enabling check box does not work anymore either! It's actually a deep plist edit that needs to be done to re-enable. Der Flounder explains quite well what happened: Here's an Apple discussion with the command needed: sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'Delete:JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum' /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist. No intent to seem preachy at all. It's kind of a known, though, regardless of platform - the latest Java exploits are a really big concern. And I meant what I said: Why apply updates just because they're there, in any business environment, when it can have the kind of impact you've stated. Start with policy: Updates should be investigated, and tested before applied. ![]() ![]() That's not a 'Mac' anything, it applies to any OS of course. If you need the older version of Java in 10.7 or 10.8 then yes it's more work, but otherwise the official path is to get the current Java from Oracle.
